Facebook campaign opposes $2 shops in Raglan

by Rodger on July 1, 2010

Shop opening in September- but what type of shop?

Since the relocation of the Herbal Dispensary there have been four empty shops in Bow Street, Raglan.  A sign on the shop windows now says that two new shops will be opening in September.  The other vacant shops are still advertised as being available for lease. There have been many rumours circulating about  the nature of the new shops.  Ethnic food, hardware, ethnic clothing have all been mentioned.

And the latest rumour is that a $2 shop will be opening.   The last $2 shop in Raglan closed down eight years ago.   Opposition seems to be building to the idea of a $2 shop opening now.   A campaign has been started on Facebook opposing the shop. The Facebook postings states, “AN OWNER OF ANOTHER SHOP SAID THAT THEY MIGHT BE TURNING ONE OF THE EMPTY SHOPS INTO A $2 DOLLAR SHOP JOIN SO WE CAN STOP IT!!! THE LAST THING WE NEED IS A TACKY $2 DOLLAR SHOP YUCK.AND I MEAN ALL THAT PLASTIC ISN’T GOOD 4 OUR ENVIRONMENT”.  Already 48 people have joined supporting the campaign.

$2 Shop NO WAY for Raglan, it does not fit with our image for the environment.
